Master unit is a core module of BioRow telemetry system, its v.5 contains the following features:

• A data logger on internal flash-memory card;

• Real-time data output through USB-COM and/or Wi-Fi channels;

• Li-Ion battery to power the units, connected Slave units and sensors of the whole system, with inbuilt automatic charger from any USB power source,
• 3D accelerometer and 3D gyro for the most accurate determination of the boat movements and rotations (see RBN 2012/03),
• GPS receiver (10Hz) and impeller input for versatile measurements of the boat speed on both steady lakes and rivers with current,
• Input for 11 analogue channels, which is enough for a single or pair,
• After data collection, the Master unit can be connected to a PC as an external drive for seamless data transfer,
• With unbuilt BlueTooth and BLE modules, the Master unit can connect to various  wireless sensors (BioRow handle force sensor, NK EmPower instrumented oarlocks, etc.). Information from wireless sensors is synchronised with other data and recorded in the Master unit.
• With inbuilt WiFi host, Master unit can transmit data wirelessly to a tablet computer (up to 100m away), where a rower or a coach can see synchronised force curves, power output of each crew member and other biomechanical values (stroke length, average forces, “slip” and “wash”, etc.).

Master unit is waterproof and has four connectors:

• 12-pin connector is used (depending of the type of connected cable) for real time data output, downloading of recorded data and charging;
• 4-pin connector is used for connecting Slave extension units in a chain;
• Two 7-pin connectors are used for sensors, 4 channels each.

Master unit has six waterproof buttons and corresponding indicators:

• ON/PFF button to turn the unit ON and OFF (long push), and to start and stop data acquisition (short push);
• Radio button indicates turns inbuilt WiFi ON and OFF;
• BlueTooth and BLE (BlueTooth Low Energy) buttons switch corresponding modules ON and OFF;
• Service 1 and 2 buttons start recording of 5 sec data sample, which is used for setting zero of angle and other sensors.
