It is well known that rowers and coaches often prefer to measure pitch directly on the blade. To do this, they typically use a string with a hanging weight attached to the top edge of the blade and measure the distance between the string and the bottom edge. They then consult tables to convert this distance into degrees of blade pitch – a method that is not particularly accurate. After each adjustment, the process must be repeated, making it time-consuming and inefficient.
With the recent upgrade to our BioRow Pitch Meter, blade pitch can now be measured and adjusted in a much more accurate and efficient way. In addition to the standard pin-mounting method, the new Pitch Meter can be hooked directly onto the blade, allowing real-time measurements with 0.1-degree accuracy. Standard pin pitch measurement remains available without any modifications to the device, so you can easily switch between measurement types.
The standard version of the BioRow Pitch Meter is compatible with all sculling blades. For sweep blades, an extended version with a longer vertical stay is required.
