2D Oar Angle sensor

BioRow 2D Oar Angle sensor measures movements of the oar shaft in horizontal and vertical planes, which allows defining the following variables:

• Catch and finish angles, and total stroke length (RBN 2003/04-05, 2017/04). Also, the handle velocity is derived using the horizontal oar angle and actual inboard (RBN 2002/07), and this a part of Work per Stroke (2014/07) rowing power measurements (RBN 2014/03, 2018/09).
• Depth of the blade in the water during the drive can show too deep or too shallow blade work, (RBN 2015/08), and the height of its movement in the air during recovery can detect “skying” the blade before catch,
• Combining the horizontal and vertical angles, BioRow software derives the trajectory of the blade movement relative to the water and uses it for detecting catch and release slips and effective angles (RBN 2009/10), which are indicators of effective blade work (RBN 2018/06-08).

Oar Angle sensor can be mounted on the top of the pin in seconds and works with all known boat and rigger types, with both sculling and sweep oars. After installation, the sensor should be levelled in two planes using inbuilt spirit level, which provides accuracy of measuremnts.

The sensor holds the oar shaft with flexible bracket on the end of connecting rod, which is also used for connection of the handle force sensor.

The sensor is supplied pre-calibrated and do not need calibration. The system only requires setting zero angle, which takes about 5 seconds on water before the start of measurements.
