Rowing power is calculated based on your ergometer score. Predicted on-water speed is then derived from this power and the drag factor, which generally depends on the rower’s weight and the type of boat. Using thousands of measurements in our BioRow database, we developed a mathematical model that relates these factors across various boat types. Of course, actual speed in a boat also depends on many other variables—such as weather conditions, water temperature, rowing technique efficiency, crew synchronization, proper rigging, and equipment quality. Therefore, the predicted speed reflects an average combination of these factors, as defined by the diverse range of data used in the BioRow model.
