What people say about us

I am on the Cornell women's  rowing team and I just wanted to let you know how delighted I was to receive all of that information about my rowing stroke from you. Not only is your work well thought out with respect to blending right into the boat without inferring with the rowing, but it also collects huge amounts of data that were really well summarized by the graphs. I've had a lot of coaching in the past but no words can visualize my personal stroke better than your data did. I'm certain it will help me improve my technique and I'm glad you're making an impact on our boat speed.

Vladimir Morozov, coach of W4x UKR, Olympic champions in London-2012:

Biomechanical testing with Valery helped us to verify our ideas about rowing technique and prove they are correct. Detailed and clear information on such important characteristics of technique as force curve, blade work in the water, synchronicity of the crew and many others allowed us accurate adjustment for each rower individually and increase our positive confidence.

Also, it helped us to choose an optimal combination of rowers. Biomechanics data work like X-rays and allowed us to see internal features of rowing technique of each oarswomen, positive points and to-be-improved things. All these allowed us to prepare in our best way to London-2012 Olympics and perform successfully.

Tomas Kacovsky, Coach of W1x CZE Mirka Knapkova, Olympic champion in London-2012

Working with Dr. Valery Kleshnev we have realised how important to pay constant attention to rowing technique, even with such experienced athlete as Mirka Knapkova. It is especially important with rowers of the highest level, where often coaches and rowers lose a sharp vision of mistakes and problems. Valery helped us to obtain this vision. Quite often I use his verbal expressions and refer to his recommendation, when we discuss rowing technique with Mirka.

Also, Valery has helped us to choose the most suitable boat for Mirka. Though another boat was faster during the testing, the data provided by Valery allow us to look into the selection at a different angle of view. The problem was that Mirka was not able to produce her highest power in the fastest boat. Later we were able to achieve it and the result was excellent.

Thomas Poulsen, Coach of LM2x DEN, Olympic champions of London-2012:

For the Danish rowing federation, working with BioRow was a part of the great success at the London Olympics Games. Our experience on working with BioRow was that for each time we have a session the benefits get bigger and bigger.

For the coaches, Biomechanics was a very important tool to see the progress in the rowers’ technique, and define clearly, what part of the stroke we had to concentrate our focus on to find more speed. Biomechanics helped to evaluate the technique precisely, so the time the rowers normally use to change the technique has been cut down dramatically.

The rowers of the Danish national team were very satisfied with the BioRow feedback and the reports on the performance. They became much more motivated to work with the technique, because the targets were set clearly and rowers know exactly where and what need to be improved. When it comes to technique the communication between the coaches and rowers are much more positive, when both sides have 100% confidence about what to work with and why it need to be improved.

Thank you for coming to Boston and working with almost 30 of our club members this past summer. Your testing showed us a handful of inefficient issues in our rowing technique, clearly addressable through better rigging and training. Based on your measurements and advice, I made several immediate adjustments to my rigging, as well as how I think about the catch.

This past weekend at the Head of The Charles, I won the 50-59 M1x. I also had a chance during the weekend to speak with several of your medal-winning 2012 London Olympic athletes. They all agreed that being able to actually see the results of your biomechanical testing data had been very helpful to them. There was broad agreement at CBC that you made us faster as a group. We hope you are able to work with us again in 2013.

The biomechanics certainly helped our crew. I was able to make a few small adjustments to the rigging, whilst continuing to focus on improving their technical faults. I have a new group next year and will use BioRow service more extensively. By comparing data at different stages through the year I can pick out individual weaknesses allowing me to improve them.

A huge thank you for an exceptionally valuable program! I'm the one who was complaining and making excuses first thing Sunday morning, even before I got in the boat, and then who became increasingly frustrated with my boat-stopping rowing and who docked discouraged and sulking. At that point I didn't think the testing was going to show anything really helpful, as the row was so heavy and weird and I was so slow. But the evening presentation, and my subsequent two rows since then, have changed everything. I'd been trying more of an all-at-once approach for the drive, but I still thought I had decent connection and hang. Not so. The section showing me that I engage my torso and arms earlier than I thought, and earlier than optimal, was eye-opening. It also made clear that that style is not effective. Further, your explanation of "catching through the stretcher", and not even thinking about the handles until the finish, also made something click for me. I kind of knew I needed to have a stronger and cleaner finish, but was lazy about working on this. Once again, your graph plus measure of slippage was impossible to ignore. So, I went out yesterday and dedicated the row to thinking about real hang, and footboard connection and push, and keeping blade buried through a firm finish, and it was amazing: I saw hull speed numbers which I haven't seen since pre-surgery/treatment, and was so happy. Today was the same, a feeling of efficient and effective movement with the boat, and with corresponding hull speeds to match. In short, thank you for your work with us. What was looking like a third year in a row of a discouraging head season has suddenly become a possibly very good one, and BioRow made all the difference in my outlook.
